Welcome to my first Rock it for Fall Friday post! I’ve seen a lot of buzz around the blogosphere about everyone getting the last wear out of their summer favorites, and it got me thinking that a change of season doesn’t have to mean giving up everything you invested in for summer. As a girl on a budget, I’m always looking for ways to increase the longevity of every item in my wardrobe, so for the next few weeks I’ll be dedicating my Friday fashion posts to tips on how to outfit your summer favorites for the upcoming fall season.
If you’ve been following my fashion posts, then you probably know I have been living in my white skinny jeans this summer. They have quickly become a wardrobe staple for me, and while I know it’s a fashion rule not to wear white after Labor Day, I’m choosing to be rebellious this year.
The trick to making your white denim fall appropriate is all about coverage and color choice. Fall is all about muted, earthy tones (think mustard yellow, olive green, burnt orange, burgundy and plum) that match the changing leaves this season is known for, so make sure to keep this in mind when choosing a top. I went casual with this military style green top from AE; the 3/4 sleeves are light enough for summer’s end and warm enough for fall’s beginning.
If you want to add pops of color, accessories are the way to go. I added pops of pink to this outfit with my studded Rachel Rachel Roy snakeskin flats (sale!) and layered ombre Loft necklace. The pink adds the perfect pop of color while still complimenting the green top. Other great color pairings are mustard yellow and navy, plum and orange or brown and burgundy. As temperatures drop, switch from flats to a versatile ankle bootie like these stitched booties from AE. To top things off, I added a braided brown belt to compliment my dark brown leather bag.
